Student User Guide
Everything you need to use EduLink as a student, in simple steps: how your school registers you, how to activate your account with the SMS code, how to sign in, and how to use each part of the student portal.
Start here: the four steps
Getting into EduLink happens in this order. Your school does the first step. You do the rest.
- SchoolRegisters youThe school office adds you to EduLink with your class and your phone number.
- SchoolSends your codeThe school invites you. You get an SMS with a 6-digit code.
- YouActivate, onceEnter your phone, the code and a new password. You do this only one time.
- YouSign inFrom then on, sign in with your username or phone and your password.
Welcome to EduLink
EduLink is the online system your school uses for classes, attendance, homework and report cards. The student portal is your own page in EduLink. You open it in the web browser on your phone or a computer. There is no app to install.
What you can do in the student portal
You can look at your information, but you cannot change your marks or your attendance. Only your teachers and school staff can do that.
Three words to know
Registration
The school office puts your details into EduLink and invites you. The school does this, not you.
Activation
You use the SMS code to choose your password. You do this once.
You enter your username or phone and your password. You do this every time.
Students in grade 7 and above who are enrolled in a class. For younger students, a parent or guardian uses EduLink's parent portal instead.
Before you start
- Your own mobile phone number, given to your school. It must be your number, not your parent's number that the school already has.
- The SMS from EduLink with your 6-digit activation code. It arrives after your school invites you.
- Internet on your phone or a computer, and a web browser such as Chrome.
- Your region's EduLink address. For Dire Dawa it is dire.edulinkschool.com. The link in your SMS always opens the right one.
Never share your password or your SMS code with anyone, not even a friend or a classmate. School staff will never ask for them.
How your school registers you
You cannot register yourself. There is no sign-up form for students. The school's registrar (the school office) registers you. Schools do this in one of two ways, and the second way needs one extra step.
Way 1: one student at a time
- The registrar adds you and puts you in your class.
- The registrar adds your phone number and chooses Invite to portal.
- You get the SMS with your code. Go to Activate your account.
Way 2: a list of many students (spreadsheet)
- The school uploads a list of students. The list has your parents' phone numbers but not yours.
- Your parents may get their own SMS for the parent portal. You do not get an SMS yet.
- Next, the registrar must add your phone number to your record and send your invitation. Then your SMS arrives.
If your class was registered from a list and you have no SMS, go to the school office. Ask them to add your phone number and to invite you to the student portal.
If your name, class or other details are wrong, only the school office can correct them. See Getting help.
Activate your account (one time)
When your school invites you, this SMS arrives on your phone:
Your EduLink activation code: ****** Go to https://…/student-activate and tap 'Activate Student Account'. Expires in 24 hours.
The code is 6 digits, works only once, and is valid for 24 hours.
- Tap the link in the SMS. The Activate Student Account page opens with your phone number already filled in.
No link? Open your region's EduLink address. On the sign-in page, under Are you a student?, tap Activate your account with the SMS code. - Check that Phone number is your number.
- Type the 6 digits from the SMS in 6-digit activation code.
- Choose a username if you want one, for example your first name and a dot and a letter. You can also leave it empty and sign in with your phone number.
- Type a New password: at least 8 characters, with letters and numbers. Type it again in Confirm password.
- Tap Activate Account.
A green message says "You're activated! Signing you in…" and your Today page opens. Your account is ready. From now on, use Sign in.
If activation does not work
- No SMS after a few minutes: tap Didn't get a code? Resend. A new code replaces the old one. This only works after the school has invited you. If still nothing comes, ask the school office to check your phone number.
- "That code is incorrect or has expired": check the 6 digits. If more than 24 hours have passed, tap Didn't get a code? Resend.
- "You've already requested a code recently": wait a while, then try again.
- "This account is already activated": you have done this before. Go to Sign in. Forgot the password? See Forgot your password.
- "We couldn't find a pending invite for that phone number": check the number. The school may have used a different one, or has not invited you yet.
- The message says the number belongs to a parent or guardian: the school must use your own phone number, not your parent's. Ask the school office.
- That username is already taken: choose a different one, or leave it empty.
- Open your region's EduLink address, for example dire.edulinkschool.com. You see Welcome Back!
- In Username or Phone, type the username you chose. If you did not choose one, type your phone number.
- In Password, type your password. Tap the eye icon to check what you typed.
- Tap Sign In.
- Your Today page opens. It says Hello with your name, your school and your student number.
There is one sign-in page for everyone: students, parents and staff. EduLink knows you are a student from your account.
The page says "Incorrect username or password." Check the spelling and try again, or use Forgot Password?

The Today page is your home in EduLink. It opens every time you sign in.

- Tap a subject to open it. You see:
- Materials: files and links your teacher shares. Tap Open to read one.

- On the Today page, tap Grades.
- Your report cards appear here when the school publishes them, usually at the end of each term.

- Phone number: type your new number and tap Send request. The school office checks it and answers in Messages. Your number does not change until they approve it.
- Username: change the name you sign in with.
- Password: tap Change password to choose a new one.

Sign out safely
- On a phone: tap the menu (three lines, top left). At the bottom, next to your name, tap the exit arrow (Sign out).
- On a computer: the menu is always on the left. Click the exit arrow at the bottom, next to your name.
- You are signed out when you see the Welcome Back! sign-in page again.
If you use a family phone, a friend's phone or a school computer, sign out when you finish. Otherwise the next person can see your information.
Forgot your password or lost your phone
Forgot your password (you still have your phone)
- On the sign-in page, tap Forgot Password?
- Choose I'm a Student.
- Type the phone number on your account and tap Send code. You get an SMS with a 6-digit reset code.
- Type the code and your new password, then tap Reset password.
- Sign in with your new password.
This works only for an account you have already activated.

Lost your phone, or changed your number
If you cannot receive SMS on the number in EduLink any more, you cannot reset the password by yourself. This protects your account.
- On the sign-in page, tap Lost access to your phone number? to read these steps.
- Go to your school's registrar office in person, with an ID or another way to show who you are.
- The registrar puts your new phone number on your account. They cannot see your password.
- Then use Forgot Password? with your new number.

If something goes wrong
I cannot find the student sign-in page
Open your region's EduLink address, for example dire.edulinkschool.com, or use the Student Login button at the top of this guide. If you do not know your region's address, open edulinkschool.com and choose your region, or ask your school.
My username or phone number is not accepted
Check for typing mistakes. If you did not choose a username when you activated, use your phone number. If you never activated your account, do activation first. Still not working? Ask the school office.
I typed the wrong password
Try again slowly. Tap the eye icon to see what you typed. If you cannot remember it, use Forgot Password?
I forgot my password
Use Forgot Password? on the sign-in page and choose I'm a Student. A reset code comes by SMS.
I did not get an activation SMS
- Wait a few minutes and check your SMS messages.
- On the activation page, tap Didn't get a code? Resend.
- If your class was registered from a list, the school may not have your phone number yet. See Way 2.
- Still nothing: ask the school office to check your phone number and invite you again.
My code expired or is not accepted
Codes last 24 hours and work once. Check the 6 digits, then tap Didn't get a code? Resend for a new one. Only the newest code works.
The link in the SMS does not open
Copy the address from the SMS into your browser. Or open your region's EduLink address and tap Activate your account with the SMS code under Are you a student?
EduLink says my account is suspended or not active
"This account has been suspended" means the school has turned it off. You cannot fix this yourself. Ask the school office. If it says your phone number has not been activated yet, do activation first.
I can sign in but my pages are empty
Empty pages are normal at first: teachers add homework, materials and marks over time, and report cards come at the end of term. If your class or school looks wrong, ask the school office.
My attendance or grades are missing or wrong
Tell the teacher of that subject, or the school office. You cannot change marks yourself. For an absence, you can submit a reason.
The page does not load, or my internet is slow
- Check that you have internet and mobile data.
- Reload the page. Wait a little: the first visit takes longer.
- Turn on Low-data mode in Settings.
- Try again later, or use Wi-Fi.
I see an error message
Read the message: most say what to do. Try again once. If it keeps happening, write down the message (do not include your password or code) and show it to the school office.
My name or other personal details are wrong
Only the school office can correct your details. To change your phone number, use Settings → Phone number, or visit the school office.
Privacy and account safety
- Keep your password secret. Do not write it where others can see it.
- Never share an SMS code. Anyone with your code can take over your account.
- Use only the official EduLink address from your SMS or your school, ending in edulinkschool.com.
- Sign out on shared phones and computers.
- Use only your own account. Never sign in as another student.
- If your details are wrong, tell the school office.
- If something feels wrong, or someone asks for your password or code, tell a trusted adult or the school office.
EduLink and your school will never ask you for your password or your SMS code.
